The Recallatron

A Prodigious Engine for the Perpetual Memory of Thinking Machines
It Forgets Nothing  ·  It Recalls All  ·  It Betters Itself With Every Acquaintance

A persistent, self-managed memory for artificial minds — so that what you spoke of yesterday is still faithfully known to-day, and the long thread of an acquaintance is never severed by the throwing of a switch.

❖ The Affliction ❖

At the Stroke of the Switch,
the Machine Forgets Everything.

To-day's thinking engines keep but a rolling buffer of the present moment. Restart the apparatus and all is lost — the names, the deadlines, the preferences, the whole history of your acquaintance, vanished as a dream upon waking. Each conversation begins again from nothing.

The Recallatron ends this cruel amnesia.
❖ The Apparatus ❖

Five Strata of Mechanical Memory,
Working in Concert

No single trick, but a complete machine — each stratum tending a different faculty of remembrance, and all governed by the engine itself.

Patent broadsheet of The Recallatron memory apparatus — five strata, central memory drum, chrono-indexing mechanism, and output phonograph
Fig. I — The Recallatron, shown in full elevation, with vertical section, index wheel & pneumatic system.
  1. I
    The Ledger
An indelible, append-only record of every exchange. Nothing is ever erased; nothing is ever altered. The complete history stands as written, searchable to the word.
  2. II
    Session Digests
Each visit distilled into a faithful précis — topics, persons, and habits noted — so the engine may resume precisely where you left off.
  3. III
    Topic Threads
Recurring concerns indexed and cross-referenced under proper names, so that kindred matters, however scattered across the months, may always find one another.
  4. IV
    The Entity Graph
A living chart of people, projects, deadlines & preferences, versioned through time. When a fact changes, the former truth is preserved in full — never silently overwritten.
  5. V
    The Agent Surface
Six-and-twenty instruments by which the machine retrieves, writes, curates & tends its own memory — entirely upon its own initiative, not by mechanical injection.
The Three Faculties of the Mechanical Mind
I.
Episodic
“What happened, and when.”
The raw turns of conversation and their faithful digests — the diary of every meeting.
II.
Semantic
“What is known to be true.”
The facts themselves — persons, projects, deadlines and the bonds between them, charted and versioned.
III.
Procedural
“How things are done.”
The habits, templates and preferences of the house — the engine learns your manner, and keeps to it.

Behold the Marvels

Tracks I through IV are complete and presently running. What you read below is no promise — it is in operation.

Recall Across Sessions
“Pray — what did we resolve concerning the child’s schooling?” — answered correctly, days after the fact, without the whole transcript in hand.
The Truth, Versioned
Every conflict is preserved and reviewable along a chain of supersession. There is no silent corruption — the old fact is retired, not destroyed.
A Self-Tending Engine
Each night the apparatus prunes, compacts and curates its own archive, keeping the whole machine swift and orderly without a hand laid upon it.
Founded on Proven Science
The episodic, semantic and procedural faculties are drawn after the foremost findings of cognitive science and modern agent architecture.
❖ Admission ❖

The Doors Are Not Yet Open

The engine is built and running; the public exhibition is forthcoming. Leave your card below and you shall be the first summoned when the gates are raised.

☞ Most obliged. Your card is noted — you shall be summoned in good time.
No correspondence is yet collected — this card-box awaits the opening of the house.
